Always be grateful for what you have. We tried to visit this lady we met in the street last week and we started talking to her husband, and he talked at us for literally a half hour straight....I didn't understand it all because of the Spanish. But Hermana Salinas (my companion) told me after he left that when he was growing up, he was the oldest of 7 kids and their Dad left them and his Mom died. The children were left to fend for themselves in the tiny grass hut they lived in, and they were wandering around looking for food and some Indians fed them horse meat because they were nice.
That's real life, folks. So yeah....always be grateful. I've been so cold this week- but at least I have warm clothes to sleep in and a snuggie and a bed and a house and the gospel.
The other day we were asking an elderly man for directions and he was saying words to me and I was pretending like I understood, except I didn't. Hermana Salinas said after that he was telling me I have the "image of Jesus in my eyes".....wow. I take that as the highest of compliments.
One of our new investigators, Aaron*, is progressing. He can't read but his son read him the pamphlet about the Restoration and he liked it a lot. We're seeing him tonight. Hermana Salinas and I are improving every day. It's amazing what God can do with your life when you turn it over to him. We've been trying to talk to EVERYONE we see, and we've been seeing a lot of miracles.
We're still working with Cesar and Benita; their baptism date is this Saturday. All we need is a miracle. Soooo.....lots of prayer is appreciated. We have faith that it will all work out.
Preparation Days for Hermana Salinas and I basically consist of introducing people to the wonderful world of Mexican food. No one knows what tacos are but everyone loves them. We made tacos today with a family in our ward. They tried the tiniest bit of tabasco and were all like, "AHHHHH it's SOOO SPICY!" and then Hermana Salinas and I were pouring it on our food and they're like "How can you eat that?!" hahaha.
Transfers are next week, so we'll find out whether we stay in this area (Villa Adelina) or move next week.
Ciao! Have a great week, the Church is true,
-Hermana Nielsen
